Why Microneedling Is a Great Way to Enter the Skin Rejuvenation Game

On average, women spend 55 minutes working on their appearance every day. That includes working to make their skin look fabulous and covering up flaws, such as stretch marks, scarring, and uneven skin tones. But, what if your skin was ready before you even got out of bed in the morning? It can be with microneedling.

Michael Macdonald, MD, and his team at Aesthetic Surgery Center specialize in the most advanced cosmetic procedures, and they’re committed to helping you look and feel great every day.

What is microneedling?

Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling has been proven to reduce the appearance of skin problems by up to 80%. Microneedling uses minimally invasive technology to stimulate collagen production in the skin.

During a microneedling procedure, small needles make tiny perforations on the surface of your skin. This causes your skin to react as though it were injured. Your skin then begins to produce new collagen and elastin as part of the healing process. As a result, you can see full, smooth, and rejuvenated skin.

A typical procedure takes 30-60 minutes. Your skin may be a little irritated for a bit, but you should be able to return to your normal routine shortly after your session. You should start to see results in a couple of weeks after receiving treatment.

What can microneedling treat?

Microneedling can addresses a variety of skin concerns on multiple areas of the body. Here are a few things microneedling treats:

  • Wrinkly skin
  • Scarring
  • Acne
  • Some hair loss issues
  • Uneven tone or pigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Rosacea
  • Saggy skin as a result of weight loss or liposuction

If you’re just now starting to notice wrinkles, or you’ve been bothered by a scar or stretch mark for years, microneedling can reduce the look of your imperfections by helping you produce your own collagen.

How do I prepare for a microneedling treatment?

Dr. Macdonald will advise you on how to best prepare for a microneedling treatment, but there are a few basic things you can do to prepare. Since the procedure involves pricking your skin, it’s best to avoid using harsh exfoliators or facial products before your treatment. We also suggest that you stop taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, and stop taking medications for acne. You should also arrive to your treatment with no makeup or sunscreen on.

After your treatment, we recommend you don’t apply anything to your face and that you avoid strenuous exercise for a day or two to let your skin heal.
