Dr. Michael Macdonald is a specialist in cosmetic and facial plastic surgery. He is board-certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and a Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He has completed advanced fellowship training in cosmetic facial plastic and reconstructive surgery under the auspices of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.
Dr. Macdonald is director of Aesthetic Surgery of San Francisco and also serves as chief of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery at the Alameda County Hospital in the East Bay, where he is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery. In addition to this appointment through UC San Francisco, he has taught at the Meiji College of Oriental Medicine and for the Oakland Kaiser Head and Neck Surgery training program. He is director of a BOTOX® Cosmetic National Physician Training Center and a member of the Asia Pacific Masseter Advisory Board. He is the author of several medical articles and has received numerous awards and scholarships related to his clinical research. He speaks at professional events and conferences throughout the country and internationally.
Dr. Macdonald participates in the National Domestic Violence Program of the American Academy of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery to repair wounds and deformities of victims of domestic violence. He also participates in medical missions to Guatemala to repair congenital deformities in children. He has been a camp counselor at Camp Laurel for HIV-positive children and Camp Oochigeas for children with cancer. He is an ongoing supporter of The Little Jim Club of San Francisco, a non-profit organization that raises funds for pediatric-medical programs of the California Pacific Medical Center.
